Added sugar products contain glucose, a necessary ingredient to activate the Sodium-Glucose CoTransport (SGLT) system for rapid hydration. However, they also contain fructose, which is gram-for-gram as hard on your liver as alcohol. Zero-sugar products are easier on your liver but don't have the glucose necessary to optimize SGLT.
